The Surgeon is coming to dissect the lovechild of Mountain and Turner.

The Surgeon, Australian Hard Enduro Champion Anthony Solar, lands in Western Australia this Wednesday! And he very much intends to put the scalpel to both Round 2 and 3 of the W.A. Hard Enduro Series, to be held this weekend at Mildwood and MounTurner.

One of his 300 SE Factory bikes left Friday just past, and it is heading to a dealer right here in WA where Anthony says it will stay long enough to enable him to contest multiple WHES rounds!!

That is massive news for W.A. hard enduro fans!

In 2023 we have not only the best in the west to watch, but an even larger contingent of professional hard enduro racers coming over to keep our jaws dragging in the dirt. Riders like Sam Rogers, and Matty Broderick; not to mention Wade Ibrahim, Callum Ceglinski and Billy McCulloch that were over for the first invitational and may come back after Erzeberg for the second.

What is Mildwood and MounTurner you ask?

Combined, they are soul crushing circuits created by the mental militia behind the WHES track builds. The most notable of these misfits are Peter Mountain and Tyrone Turner, who have been a massive part of the hard enduro movement in W.A. since the dawn of time.

"Mildwood and MounTurner? They are our labour of love" says Peter Mountain at about 7 am on a frosty Saturday morning, as his lil' Massy pulls relentlessly on a clapped-out old tipper full of boulders the size of a Hyundi Getz.

The "lil' engine that could" barely can, but it does!

And you can forget what your mum and dad told you to make you feel safe in bed: in the wild country out behind Roelands, strange things really do happen at night.

In the glistening morning sun appear bridges constructed from broken pallets that hang precariously over ravines; ready or not to carry more than 90 riders across more than once.

The Nannup Tiger is not the only beast that roams, late at night, in the hills of our deep south.

Of the chaos they create Mountain says "It's not that big of a drop man..."

"Phoooweeeeetttt...." quips Turner right back at him "Awe yeah, I'll go down here and, hey!! Look at you up there!". The photos don't lie.

Captured by iPhones in the dead of night: The elusive hard enduriacs . Closely, related to a Yeti, but unlike the Yeti, this one can use hand tools. Research suggests the actual Yeti can only make vocalisations.

All those competing in these events, make no mistake: it is a long way to the ground. And the bottom of that creekline? It's not soft sodden slop and weed. It is all rocks and logs.

When asked what he was expecting to encounter, Solar had this to say "I did hear that Saturday is fast! It should be fun!"

How hard enduro riders define fun? Your guess is as good as mine.

If you want to observe the outcome of what happens when the sun goes down behind the rolling hills of Roelands, you need to come and spectate these events. Click on this WHES link for full details.
