I always felt entitled to own this T-shirt given that both of my daughters were dancers, and a fair chunk of our coin was thrown at tutus, fake eyelashes and fishnets.

So, you can imagine the level of empathy I have for the parents of the kids who want to ride dirt. I feel their pain. I know what they are going through.

The truth is we all live vicariously through our kids and none of us ever think more than twice about putting the pounds down to help our kids be the best they can be in the sport they love. And when they make their mark, any question of the cost of getting them there is long lost in the haze of smoke and noise.

In 2022, Jakob Petrig was riding Silver Class at only 15 years of age. 12 months later the Jackal is sharing the podium with the likes of Sam Rogers and Darren Rudling. Not even 17 years of age yet, I asked him how he feels about having fans younger than him that want to ride the lines he can ride.

His response was as acute as his riding ability "Honoured". Knowing someone aspires to ride like he rides validates all that he has accomplished and reaffirms all that he is capable of.

Cooper McCarthy is barely 12 and he is already throwing himself at Hard Enduro.

There is little doubt that young riders will be part of the future story for WHES and, as such, Hard Enduro parents with progeny that have two-stroke coursing through their veins are perhaps getting a little anxious as Christmas approaches.

Because if you thought "Do you think Santa will bring me a pony" are nine of the most expensive words to come out of the mouths of babes then think again!

"Mum, Dad....I want to ride Hard Enduro" is far worse.
